1) Katya’s World by Jonathan L Howard

Katya Kuriakova doesn’t care much about ancient history like that, though. She is making her first submarine voyage as crew; the first nice, simple journey of what she expects to be a nice, simple career.
There is nothing nice and simple about the deep black waters of Russalka, however; soon she will encounter pirates and war criminals, see death and tragedy at first hand, and realise that her world’s future lies on the narrowest of knife edges. For in the crushing depths lies a sleeping monster, an abomination of unknown origin, and when it wakes, it will seek out and kill every single person on the planet.

With the vampires indulging their every whim, the town’s human population is determined to hold on to their lives by taking up arms. But college student Claire Danvers isn’t about to take sides, considering she has ties to both the humans and the vampires.
To make matters worse, a television show comes to Morganville looking for ghosts, just as vampire and human politics collide. Now, Claire and her friends have to figure out how to keep the peace without ending up on the nightly news… or worse.

That’s why she keeps a pencil sharpener in her purse and a pocket Shakespeare in her, well, pocket. And that’s also why she’s chosen Mark Bixford, her childhood crush, as her MTB (“meant to be”).

After one wild party, Julia starts receiving romantic texts . . . from an unknown number! Jason promises to help discover the identity of her mysterious new suitor if she agrees to break a few rules along the way. So many great choices! It’s always hard to choose.
Well, I may be biased but after reading the excerpt posted elsewhere here on the SC site, I’m chomping at the bit to read the rest of Katya’s World. Who wouldn’t want to board an off-world submarine cruising the storm-tossed waves of an alien water-planet with a heroine as resourceful and, yes I’ll say it, spunky as Katya. For any YA sci fi adventure-seeker, this book oughta float right to the top of the to-read-soonest manifest….
I’m reading Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor right now, thanks to NetGalley, and have read a few other ones already too. Looking forward to REACHED by Ally!
